Description
Novolin® 70/30 is a type of insulin made using advanced technology. It mixes 70% NPH insulin, which works over a few hours, with 30% regular human insulin. This combination helps manage blood sugar levels well. It works similarly to the insulin your body naturally makes, making it good for controlling high blood sugar in people with diabetes.
Novolin® 70/30 is usually given by a shot just under the skin. Available in bottles or pre-filled pens containing the medication. This insulin helps move sugar from the blood into the body’s cells, which lowers blood sugar levels after eating and during the day. People often use it two times a day to meet both their meal-related and regular insulin needs.
Patients using Novolin 70/30 need to check their blood sugar often and change their dose as their doctor suggests. Like other insulin treatments, it may lead to issues such as low blood sugar, weight gain, and injection site reactions. People should learn how to spot and handle these problems to manage their diabetes safely and well.
How should I take Novolin 70/30?
Only use Novolin 70/30 if it appears cloudy or milky. There may be air bubbles. This is normal. If the precipitate (the white deposit at the bottom of the vial) has become lumpy or granular in appearance or has formed a deposit of solid particles on the wall of the vial, do not use it. Do not use this insulin if the liquid in the vial stays clear after gently rotating it.
Novolin 70/30 storage:
- Keep at room temperature below 77°F (25°C) for up to 6 weeks (42 days).
- Keep vials away from direct heat or light.
- Dispose of an opened vial after 6 weeks (42 days) of use, regardless of remaining insulin.
- Unopened vials can be used until the expiration date on the Novolin 70/30 label, if the medicine has been stored in a refrigerator.
